About
A. Michel Velazquez
A. Michel Velazquez is an artist that paints from the soul. His gallery is eclectic and unique and showcased in the variety of mediums that he has used throughout his career, including canvas, furniture, clothing, wine barrels, and record players. Before leaning into this creative stream, his passion was poetry, having published two poetry books back in Mexico.
Michel traces his roots back to the bustling metropolis of Mexico City, MX, where he was born; however, he was raised further west in Jalisco, MX. He has always been family oriented and draws inspiration from his father, who is also an artist. When he was younger, his father would regularly take Michel into town to collect recycled items for artistic repurposing. This early introduction to imaginative expression has stayed with him and helped shape his artistic style.
In his early adulthood, Michel made the decision to pick up and move out of the country all the way to the mile-high city of Denver, CO. However, it wasn’t all positive. After moving in 2006, a time of darkness, both economically and emotionally, ensued. As he searched for his true identity in a new city, he turned to painting to reconnect with his roots. Despite limited funds, he scoured the streets and corners of Denver for materials to upcycle as his artistic mediums. Though he never anticipated becoming an artist, Michel now brings his artistic expression and vitality to the city through his work. It is his environment and experiences, past and present, that inspire his creations, and he is constantly aiming to capture and reflect the themes of love, creativity, and beauty in each canvas and sculpture that is produced
Michel’s artwork is exhibited across the country in Denver, Miami, and New York, featuring a diverse range of styles. His portraits of women are particularly striking, depicting women in their full powerful divine feminine, often with a single teardrop on their faces to convey a story of pain, strength, and beauty. Michel aims to inspire and connect with as many people as possible through his art, spreading the message that even in the darkest of times, life can be beautiful.
In his personal life, Michel enjoys life’s little pleasures. He is a tequila and mezcal enthusiast, philanthropist, and admirer of the world that he observes around him.
Love is a primary recurring theme in Michel’s works. As to why, he himself says it best, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs”
